My family has always told me to seize the moment. And
they’re right. You need to take action and have confidence in yourself.
Theodore Roosevelt said it himself “Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never
intended to be an oyster.”
On the way to school. I am dressed in a white dress shirt and a blue tie. My mom
can tell I’m nervous for today’s wrestling meet. As we pull into the school
district she says “Alex just remember to seize the moment” I reply with a quick
okay but I thought about what she said all day. I’m even worry about how I
looked or about school in general. I am trying to get mentally prepared for
today’s home meet. It’s already 3 minutes until the end of the day. I didn’t
even remember any classes at all today but I don’t care I need to maintain my
mental state. I’m now in my uniform and I’m practicing my wrestling moves. I
need to get prepared but I also need to save my energy because I am the first
one to wrestle. The match stats and I’m ready.
Down by seven and the last period is about to begin. I have
sixty seconds to try and win. Scoring the win would start my team off in a good
start. The other guy, my opponent already knows he’s going to win. I get lined
up, hands on the mat. When I look up the ref asks if I’m ready. I nod my head
up and down and then your opponent gets
in place on top of your back. I am determined to win. Ref blows his whistle. My
body moves at lightning speed and I reverse my opponent and get two points.
Then I break him down and put him in a pining combination. He breaks free from
the combination but it doesn’t matter you have control now. The pining
combination got you three points. Now you’re only down by two. The anticipation
of winning gives you strength. You flip your opponent back again and get
another pining combination. He breaks free last second but it doesn’t matter
you’ve already won. The last pining combination got me three points. I leap
into the air out of excitement. I look down at my defeated opponent with a
grin. He stands up and shakes my hand then slumps back to his seat. Ref raises
my hand and I feel invincible for that moment. I go back to my seat and claim
my trophy, my water bottle. As I’m sipping on the liquids my teammates pat me
on the back and I hear lots of “Nice job” or “Great Comeback”. I had seized the
moment.
Melinda Sordino seized the moment for herself also. Ever
since the party where she was raped, she had been down in the dumps. After she
called the cops nobody wanted to be around her. She didn’t even like herself.
She wouldn’t speak and she was like a completely different person. Melinda
thought there was no way she could be cured. Then she started recovering.
Accepted what happened and spoke to her ex-best friend about the incident. She
was feeling great again but then Andy Evans attacked her again. This time
Melinda seized the moment. She didn’t just sit around and do nothing, she
fought back. After she seized the moment and won, she didn’t celebrate as I
did. Instead she remained calm but she knew she had won.
You always need to seize the moment. When you are feeling
awful, seizing the moment could fix all that. It can help you gain confidence
or even happiness. Take control and seize the moment.
