Seize the Moment

My family has always told me to seize the moment. And they’re right. You need to take action and have confidence in yourself. Theodore Roosevelt said it himself “Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to be an oyster.”

On the way to school. I am dressed  in a white dress shirt and a blue tie. My mom can tell I’m nervous for today’s wrestling meet. As we pull into the school district she says “Alex just remember to seize the moment” I reply with a quick okay but I thought about what she said all day. I’m even worry about how I looked or about school in general. I am trying to get mentally prepared for today’s home meet. It’s already 3 minutes until the end of the day. I didn’t even remember any classes at all today but I don’t care I need to maintain my mental state. I’m now in my uniform and I’m practicing my wrestling moves. I need to get prepared but I also need to save my energy because I am the first one to wrestle. The match stats and I’m ready.

Down by seven and the last period is about to begin. I have sixty seconds to try and win. Scoring the win would start my team off in a good start. The other guy, my opponent already knows he’s going to win. I get lined up, hands on the mat. When I look up the ref asks if I’m ready. I nod my head up and down  and then your opponent gets in place on top of your back. I am determined to win. Ref blows his whistle. My body moves at lightning speed and I reverse my opponent and get two points. Then I break him down and put him in a pining combination. He breaks free from the combination but it doesn’t matter you have control now. The pining combination got you three points. Now you’re only down by two. The anticipation of winning gives you strength. You flip your opponent back again and get another pining combination. He breaks free last second but it doesn’t matter you’ve already won. The last pining combination got me three points. I leap into the air out of excitement. I look down at my defeated opponent with a grin. He stands up and shakes my hand then slumps back to his seat. Ref raises my hand and I feel invincible for that moment. I go back to my seat and claim my trophy, my water bottle. As I’m sipping on the liquids my teammates pat me on the back and I hear lots of “Nice job” or “Great Comeback”. I had seized the moment.

Melinda Sordino seized the moment for herself also. Ever since the party where she was raped, she had been down in the dumps. After she called the cops nobody wanted to be around her. She didn’t even like herself. She wouldn’t speak and she was like a completely different person. Melinda thought there was no way she could be cured. Then she started recovering. Accepted what happened and spoke to her ex-best friend about the incident. She was feeling great again but then Andy Evans attacked her again. This time Melinda seized the moment. She didn’t just sit around and do nothing, she fought back. After she seized the moment and won, she didn’t celebrate as I did. Instead she remained calm but she knew she had won.

You always need to seize the moment. When you are feeling awful, seizing the moment could fix all that. It can help you gain confidence or even happiness. Take control and seize the moment.

Math Class

I love math class. Math is just so amazing, especially with Mrs. Granlitch. I also just love the ALEKS program. Math class is the most fun time of day.

Mrs. Granlitch makes Math class so much more enjoyable. Whenever Mrs. Granlich is in the room math just becomes awesome than before. She hates me because of my sister. Just because my sister hated you, it doesn’t mean I’m evil. Ms. Granlitch, you have started a war that can’t be won. Last year she wouldn’t even talk to me, but now she’s happy to. Especially when she is yelling at me for no reason. Last semester I was teaching my friend a problem and he was understanding the problem and he was getting the topic correct when I was showing him, but Ms. Granlitch scolded me to go back to my seat and stop talking to my friend. Then Ms. Granlitch tries teaching my friend. The first thing she says to him is
“Ok Christian, Umm I like to remember this topic by Hippopotamus.”
What Ms Granlitch? I looked at my friend with a confused look and he looked back at me with the same confused look. Then Ms. Granlitch thinks she has the right answer, but nope she got it wrong. She got it wrong two more times after that then she laughed and walked away.

This semester I was sitting by a bunch of friends and we were talking, but we were also helping each other. I helped three of my friends master four topics each, and my weekly goal for topics were complete so nothing was wrong with talking because we were accomplishing our tasks. Then Ms. Granlitch walks over and yells at me to move. Of all seven of us she just tells me to move. So I did move, but I moved to the chair that was about three inches away from me.
“ Umm Alex, I told you to move.” said Ms. Ganlitch. To which I replied
“I did move. You just watched me.”
Then she threatened to send me to the principal’s office and write me up unless I moved. I didn’t want Ms. Granlitch to win this round, but I also didn’t want to suffer the consequences. I then moved across the room, but as soon as I sat down I moved right back. The entire time I was moving from place to place I looked straight at Ms. Granlitch. As I moved back to my original spot she just rolled her eyes at me and walked away.

After that class She scolded me and told me that I couldn’t sit next to my friends ever again. The next day I went and sat right by my friends. Now we have assigned seats and you aren’t allowed to talk to anybody. Whenever I go to math class I feel like I’m in a sweat shop now. Just sitting doing the exact same thing not allowed to talk. Ms. Granlitch gets mad at me when I’m not working on math, but the reason I’m not working is because I don’t know how to do any topics. Ms. Granlitch and all other teachers are always to busy doing something else and I can’t ask anybody how to do a topic because talking isn’t allowed. Also the ALEKS program doesn't make any sense when it tries to explain a topic to you. I absolutely resent math class with a passion.

The House of Hades

A freefall out of an airplane with a parachute would be fun, but this was entirely different. I was falling through a hole in the earth with thousands of shards of glass and a giant spider following me. Not only am I trying to grasp on to my girlfriend as we freefall into tartarus, but I’m also trying to avoid the giant boulders raining on us.  As we fall it becomes darker and colder. I try to guide myself through the freefall to dodge another boulder then WHACK. The wind gots knocked out of me and I black out.

I wake up next to a river. There was burning sensation in my arm and my vision is blurred. Frantically I look around for Annabeth and I find her face down in a pile of black sand. I shook her a little trying to wake her up and she does, but she has a black eye. We somehow survived the fall. I don’t know how, but now me and Annabeth are alone in the underworld with all the monsters that wants us dead. Once Annabeth completely gained consciousness she told me that the giant spider that came down with us is probably still alive.

Almost the same exact moment she said that the spider creped out of the shadows with thousands of smaller spiders surroundir to ng her. Luckily there was a black pool of water next to me so I used my power to control it and launch it at the spiders. When the water hit them the spiders started melting, and then I realized the water must have been an acid like liquid. With the spiders dead I rushed back to Annabeth because I knew she had a terrible fear of spiders. When I got to her she just looked at me then pointed toward behind me. I looked back and it turns out we were on the doorstep of the House of Hades.

Frank Figurative Language

This Polar Bear’s fur was as white as snow.
The polar bears teeth were sharper daggers.
When he got there he heard a squeal then a CRUNCH. Fred had bitten hazel’s throat.
Frank feared fineas because he feared that fineas would find hazel and fight franks friend and feed him to his father.
The polar bear was invincible
The polar bear was irritated that the seal escaped him.
Fred was preparing his meal.
The polar bear hunted like Achilles.
A polar bear is an alpha predator, a polar bear is a weapon, a polar bear is feared

A polar bear is an alpha predator, a polar bear is a weapon, a polar bear is feared. This particular polar was special though. It wasn’t a predator, it was actually really nice. This Polar Bear’s fur was as white as snow. The Polar Bear’s teeth were as sharper than daggers, but he rarely used them.

Ever since frank was a cub he didn’t like eating the animals.
“Frank! Eat your fish. Your father worked hard hunting that.” His mother would always tell him. Frank’s Brother fineas would always taunt him about not eating his food. but whenever he could frank would sneak the fish back into the water if they were still alive. While Frank was exploring outside he met a leopard seal. Frank startled his new friend at first because he was a polar bear, but Frank quickly re-assured him that he was a friend. So frank introduced himself and the seal introduced herself as hazel.

Frank feared fineas because he feared that fineas would find hazel and fight franks friend and feed him to his father. Franks dad hunted like Achilles. Whenever franks dad wouldn’t kill a seal he would get irritated that the seal escaped him. Franks dad once saw hazel and was determined to eat her. So franks father, Fred set up a few traps. Fred was preparing his meal. Frank new his dad was hunting a seal and he was terrified because he was going to meat hazel at the place where his dad was hunting. So frank charged at his father, trying to defend his friend. When he got there he heard a squeal then a CRUNCH. Fred had bitten hazel’s throat. When frank saw hazel’s lifeless body he became enraged. The polar bear was invincible. Frank then bit into his father’s throat.

Coach Hedge and the Roundhouse Kick

I just found out that I can’t fight whale sharks and now this stupid Phorcys guy with his dumb sparkly shirt is trying to impress me with fireworks. I just met this guy and he already annoys me. I’d rather go fight one of those giant squid monsters in the other room. I think this guy’s done giving his lame speech, time for me to get away from him.

Now that the man was done talking, Keto started saying fascinating information about the monsters in the other room, like how long it takes a giant squid to digest its food.
“Finally something entertaining.” I said, hoping she would tell me more. She then smiled back happily and started explaining the aggressive behavior of a telekhine I asked her if she could show me the diagrams of the monsters hunting habitats.

Keto escorted me through a glass tube with water surrounding it on all sides. In the water were evil hippocampi. They were black horses with long fishlike tales and razor sharp teeth. Keto then proceeded to give me a lecture about their habitat and how they hunt. After she was done she immediately turned and walked through another hallway so I followed. The next tank was bigger and had lights on every side of the tank. In the corner of the tank there was a long serpent with red eyes swimming in circles. This beast was at least 70 feet long  and looked very dangerous. I asked Keto how I could kill one of them but she simply laughed and explained how only a god could kill it. She then escorted me to a long hallway that had the sign that read EXIT at the end.

As I started to push the door open I heard a large THUD. I was about to ask what monster it was but I saw Percy and Frank in the fish tank. At that moment I instantly knew it was a trap. Then my goat like reflexes kicked in and I kicked that woman right in the back of the head. She got knocked out cold. Then I looked up and did a perfect Chuck Norris roundhouse kick into the tank. Water rushed out of the tank like a fire hose. My hooves had saved the day once again.

The Illusion of Glory vs. Fighting for Revenge

My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier has the theme of the illusion of glory. The Patriot has a theme of fighting for revenge and freedom. In the Patriot Gabriel and Benjamin Martin were fighting to avenge Benjamin’s son. In My Brother Sam is Dead Tim’s brother Sam is staying in the war for the glory. The Patriot and My Brother Sam is Dead have many similarities and differences.

Benjamin Martin and Gabriel Martin want revenge. They are hunting for Colonel Tavington but on the way they are going to need to kill as many red coats as they can. Colonel Tavington has killed Anne and Thomas so Benjamin and Gabriel are on a mission to kill him and support the cause on the way.

Tim’s brother Sam is in the war. He could have returned home, but he chose to stay in the fight. Tim wants the glory of the war and he wants to keep killing red coats. Sam ended up in a huge battle and if he runs away from it he would lose all his glory, but if he stays he could die. Tim wants the lory of the war, but he also is fighting for his freedom.

My Brother Sam is Dead and The Patriot both have the theme of fighting for freedom. The only difference between the two is that one is fighting for revenge and the other is fighting for glory.
